Narcolepsy

Narcolepsy is a medical condition caused by a deficiency of a chemical in the brain known as "hypocretin" (also sometimes referred to as "orexin"). Patients with Narcolepsy will frequently complain of:

•  excessive daytime sleepiness
• poor quality of sleep with frequent awakenings at night
• brief and sudden episodes of muscle weakness (known as "cataplexy")
• acting out dreams at night
• experiencing vivid dreams and sometimes hallucinations right before falling asleep or right after waking up
• feeling temporarily better after taking a brief nap.

We effectively treat Narcolepsy through a combination of medications and lifestyle/dietary modifications.
